EFCC RECOVERS $1M IN SOAKAWAY....ARMS DEAL SCANDAL
AMOSU, GBADEBO ARRESTED OVER ARMS
DEAL………Kings Ofurhe
The fight against corruption is
certainly unearthing more chilling revelations with the EFCC reporting that it
has arrested Lara Amosun, wife of the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air
Marshal Adeola Amosun (rtd).
This arrest is coming on the heels
of further discoveries in the arms procurement scandal following diligent
investigations by the EFCC.
According to reports from the EFCC,
Mrs. Amosun who is currently in custody in Lagos was picked up in the nation’s
Federal Capital, Abuja previous week and immediately moved to the anti-graft
agency’s Lagos office for further investigations.
Her arrest, from available
information, was as a result of the discovery of about #3b in her bank accounts
which she is alleged to be holding in trust for her husband and her lawyers are
battling to secure her release but this has been futile. And, this is apart
from other properties which were traced to the former CAS but held in trust by
the wife and his children.
Earlier reports have it that the anti-graft
watch dog discovered whooping sums of money totaling about N17.5 billion in the
accounts of wives of three Air Force Chiefs. These monies were reportedly
disseminated in various banks accounts.
Insider sources revealed that N13billion
was traced to the bank accounts of top ranking officer’s wives of the Nigeria
Air Force (NAF) both serving and retired.
According to the source, “Investigations
conducted showed that some of the monies the former Chief of Air Staff made
through some contracts and procurements in NAF were traced to his wife’s
accounts and, shortly after Amosu was picked up in Abuja, his wife, Lara, was
subsequently arrested with about N3 billion traced to her accounts while some
assets acquired by the former Service Chief was in her name and some others in
her company’s name”.
“So, as an accessory to a crime, it
is believed that the proceeds with her are suspected from the arms funds. As we
prosecute her husband, she must also be held accountable.”
The EFCC according to the source also recovered another sum of $1 million cash from Amosu’s residence in Badagary, Lagos. The foreign currency was discovered following a search on the house by the operatives.

“In continuation of the
investigation into the arms probe, the EFCC operatives took Amosu to his
residence in Badagry and after thoroughly searching the residence; a fresh
small “soak away” pit was discovered in the premises. Suspecting foul play, the
operatives broke open the “soak away”. To the surprise of all, foreign cash was
discovered stashed inside and the sum of about $1 million was recovered and it was
subsequently confiscated,” the source revealed.//END//
